It’s been a while since I’ve been on WordPress… ok I’ve been on the last few days here and there but haven’t really spent much time writing poetry. So, one of the first things I did a couple of days ago when I got back to WordPress was to head over to Leslie Whites blog to see what she’s been up to… and what do you know… another poem inspiring blog was posted here. The poem below was inspired by the painting and the post associated with the painting. Enjoy.. and thanks again Leslie for the inspiration!
Fall slides subtly in
Circling hawk
Gone and back again
Quiet down here
While you my friend
Glide high above
On gentle wind
Cat tails dance
On ponds west end
Path way beckons
Come round the bend
But I stand firm
You circle again.
Tree tops showing
Seasonal change
While dark green foliage
Still remains
Fire kissed
Leaves on high
Some have taken flight
Leaving bare their old branch home
Fewer birds
Sing their refrain
Summer eases out
Fall slides subtly in

I like this poem–it’s rare to find such pure celebration these days; maybe one of the problems with modern poetry is that we’ve moved too far away from nature, the first & great source of poetic inspiration. Also, the poem’s rhyme is unobtrusive & beautiful.
I will check out Leslie White’s blog. Well done! RT
This is perfect! You have captured everything I saw and felt. I love that “While you my friend
Glide high above
On gentle wind” He was there again, yesterday, while I painted a neighboring field of flowers. He is beginning to make me feel as though I have a buddy out there.
Thank-you for the link, Stephen. I’m glad you are back to writing.
Leslie,
Always good to get feedback after being inspired by one of your paintings. Hawks are simply amazing! I really love seeing them. I’m making a push to get back here on a more regular basis. Thanks again for the inspiration and feedback.
I look forward to catching up on with the rest of your blog 😀
Peace,
Stephen
Cathay,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I am often inspired by nature which is one of the reasons I so like stopping by Leslie’s blog. She has a way of capturing nature (and other things) that speaks to me. She has inspired several poems on my blog. Take a look around and you’ll see them with a copy of her paintings accompanying them. I appreciate the comment on the rhyme being unobtrusive and beautiful.. I was worried the lines
“Some have taken flight
Leaving bare their old branch home”
would break it but I think it worked out ok.
Thanks again
Stephen
