Sitting – Poem and Reading by Stephen Kellogg – 2012

I wrote this poem during NaPoWriMo 2012 (original post here) and decided to do a reading / video for it. Somehow on export, the video and sound shifted a little. I think it still works fine but might update it later, it’s too late tonight though.

Update: Video took a long time to load then kicked out with an error last night… so it’s now uploaded this morning 😀

At the top of this hill
Leaning back against a tree

Hardly registering the roughness
Bark ridges making creases in my shirt
Little dents in my back

The sun drifts slowly down
Through a hazy, lazy afternoon
Spreading magnificent colors
Into the late evening sky

The breeze blows softly
Gently rustling the leaves in the tree
The bulk of which is blocking all but a few
Of the breezy finger tips that tickle my neck
Giving chase to the goose bumps
Running down my spine

Hair being disheveled
Collar tips flipping up, down
A failed effort to lift me from where I sit
Transport me somewhere
Struggling in vain

Stars kick off their covers
And one by one begin their dance
Across the evening sky
Shining, twirling, moving in rhythm
Shifting, sliding, gliding through
As tides change course again

Clouds, white, light and thin
Shift in and out
Closing and opening their curtain
As dancing scenes change
On the star-studded stage

The wind shifts
And the salty sea
Reaching up the hill
Caresses my face

Collar wings stilled
Arms fold over knees
In warming self embrace

I look out over the waves
and wonder, are you

  1. Im in love with sitting, especially when the stars kick off their covers! A lovely picture to behold Stephen ! Bravo!

  2. Hello Friends and Fellow-bloggers,
For the past month a group of you have been extending your friendship hand by reading my posts and sharing your thoughts, nominating me for the VBA & THE LINK TO LINK AWARD, INSPIRATIONAL AWARD, COMMENTATOR AND SUNSHINE AWARDS, each a tribute and beautiful sweet honors gratuitously sent my way. Each are wholeheartedly accepted and acknowledged in this post despite my inability to post each photo of each of these marvelous awards.
Unfortunately, I’ve yet to master how to work with all these settings and technical availabilities, nevertheless, I still wanted to write down the nominees I wish to extend these same AWARDS to EACH of the magnificent and gifted writers, photographers, poets, musicians, artists and bearers of the light. Each one have souls that burn with the greatest gifts~ FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY. Each one use their senses of sight, hearing, touch, and smell to their maximum use then bring these into unique affinities that shine through in their own beautiful way and methods.
A person in my physical condition with severe limitations and usually bedridden in my parents home, your blogs allow me to travel, hear new viewpoints, see unbelievable sights, cry with your joys and pains, discover things I never thought I’d like since I’ve been somewhat secluded but never naive. Your blogs are new and beautiful paths strewn with rich colors of understanding, insight, passions and, creating a more “well-rounded soul (something my younger sister always said I lacked).
HERE ARE THE NOMINEE’S & Give these with sincere admiration and friendship and deep gratitude for your kindness and time which you allott me throughout your week. Bless each one of you in all your endeavors and personal desires to reaching your dreams. You have my support.

Hey, buddy, don’t sit too long! You are missed. How’s the kids and family?

    • David,
Thanks for checking in and for the encouragement … I’ve been busy editing my novel and a little other creative stuff (not enough) … but mostly just trying to keep up with life. Catching a beautiful moon here and there but not having time to write about it. There’s stuff a brewing, and one day I’ll pause long enough for it to make it on to the blog 😀

Kids are doing well, last week of school so that just adds to it all. Not to mention I had 25+ family members over on Sunday. Fed them all too 😀

One day soon it’ll slow down enough for me to catch up on your blog and others and hopefully post some stuff to mine again.

Hope you and yours are well.
