You – Poem with reading

This is a poem I wrote in hopes of encouraging people to dig deep inside themselves and let the real them come out. Too many people are ashamed of who they are because they have believed lies and their self-esteem has been damaged. I hope this poem will give them some encouragement and hope.

Peace,

Stephen

You

Where are you now
That you would doubt the very being of you
Your self-esteem dribbles around the drain in the floor

You
You are
You are the one
You are the one person in this world

That can
That can be
That can be there
That can be there for yourself

For your family
Your friends
The community
A Nation
A World
A You

Why do you listen to the lies
Beauty is built from the inside out
Build the inside and the outside will follow
Will it be Hollywood beautiful
I hope not

Theirs is a painted
Enhanced
Outside beauty that doesn’t sustain

I will take an inside beauty
Built on life, passion, love

So put your foot over the drain
Look your self-esteem in the face
And demand it get back in order

Then, burrow deep inside
Cut through the weeds that lie
Yank a few by the roots and toss them to the wind

But don’t focus there
Dig deeper
Into the richness of you

Don’t doubt it
Dig
You are there
Precious you

Yes, there is pain
No, it won’t evaporate
But there is hope

Dig
You’re down there
Under the layers of dried out dirt
Under the dust and tumbleweeds

Your spirit is there
Like an eternal spring
Constantly pushing

It just needs a few stones removed
Reach in
Feel the cool touch your fingers
As you move the first stone

I know
It seems impossible

It’s not

Let go of the rock
Kiss the water from your fingertips
Be refreshed
Feel the strength

Smell the vibrancy there
That
That is
That is you

Passionate being
Filled with creativity
Beauty held deep within

It is not meant for you
To stay dormant
Covered over with layers of dried out dirt
Weeds blemishing your landscape

Reach again
Grab a rock
Look at it and recognize its clogging power
And don’t take it in again

People will try
Some with intent to break you down
Others ignorant to the power of words
Or the weakness in their own world

But you
You have the strength of the current
The current that flows constantly
That will water your land
Adding richness to the soil of you

Pick flowers to plant
Start small
But dream the world
And
Move, flow, rhythm
Life, passion, love

You

  1. Splendid! How I wish I could read my poetry as emotionally drawn like this! Job well done! I am loving this! 🙂 Thanks for sharing it! 🙂

  2. Ian Moone says:

This was most excellent, held me to the end, despite the thunder in the back ground British weather always picks the worst moments

    • Bruce,
Thank you. I do wonder if this one is one of those better heard then read poems.
While you’re welcoming the sun there, it’s 2:15AM here and I need to head to bed. We had rain earlier, fortunately it passed by the time I recorded the poem. As always, I appreciate your feedback! Enjoy your day.

    • Sue,
Thanks for the feedback. I too, like you, have a few other things out on SoundCloud. If you get a chance, go check them out. I hope you get some time to dig around the blog here. It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but hopefully that’ll change soon. I’ve been inspired again as you may have seen in today’s post 😀

      Peace,

      Stephen
