Books, Paper, Pencils, Paint, Instruments Etc.
I have a couple of friends that have recently posted (as I have done) poetry of one form or another, that was written by their kids. On one such post I replied “Start ‘em young, Build ‘em strong.” As sometimes happens, I write a comment that triggers a poem, rant or in this case an acrostic.

Stephen Kellogg – 2012
The point is to encourage you to support kid’s growth by exposing them to the arts with an emphasis on diving in and trying things themselves. I think the focus on all the arts, from music to dance to drawing, painting, photography and other forms of creative expression, is vital for full growth in children and I hope you do what you can to encourage that in them. Unfortunately, I think many adults rely on schools to help kids on this front…
and
I think that many schools are moving away from this focus. I’m blessed that in the public schools here in my county / city, kids have the opportunity to explore the arts including orchestra and band, starting in elementary school. But, I think it’s vital for parents to be involved as well, whether you consider yourself “good” at it or not. Find ways to help kids express themselves and explore the world around them. If you’re open to it, it will help you grow as well.
Peace,
Stephen
