So I missed most of yesterday on WP but when I got on today, I saw this poetry prompt on Panda’s blog.
Salt, River and Book, the theme infinite possibilities.
As posted on Panda’s site:
“Apparently Rambly posted another prompt. A group of us, Rambly, Susan, Prayer, Mimsy, Kellogg have been playing poetry games, and this is one of the prompts.
The words required were Salt, River and Book, the theme infinite possibilities.” Now I’m off to see what all the fuss is over a squirrel and nuts…
Love missed but found
I ventured out across the river
Headed for the far side
Love waiting there
Arms out stretched, beckoning
On I paddled, blisters forming
Muscles tired, determined
Fog drifted in
Yet through the patches here and there
I caught a glimpse
Her golden hair waiving in the breeze
I reached the far bank
Worn from the journey
Yet found no lady fair with golden hair
Pain and sorrow
Salt in my blistered hands
Wounded heart
My lady fair a tree
Golden leaves basking in the sun
Branches swaying in dance with the wind
Still calling,
Come, rest
Shade, love
Climbing out,
Weary and down hearted
Leaned my back against the tree
Smiled
With blistered hands
Muscles sore
Yet sitting now on the far shore
I realized
Love had been calling
My vision had been blurred
Here I sat in loves embrace
In the grace, comfort and love
Nature provided
Calling me to be free
Hands would mend
Muscles strengthen
Better prepared for next time
Standing to stretch and thank the tree
I turned to see a carving
“Further in you’ll find me”
I stopped and stared
Neatly tucked inside the words
A golden hair
A reminder to self that this is but
One chapter in my book of life
The rest, yet written
Filled with infinite possibilities
Stephen Kellogg – 2012
Oh, Stephen–you took this someplace beautiful Thanks for playing with us. Love where this led.
Susan,
thanks! may have some time to hit another prompt or two tonight… if the other poems rolling around in my head will solidify enough to let me move on 😀
Understood. Looking forward to whatever jumps out of your pen or fingertips next!
I do love the variety these prompts throw up, and this is another great entry. This prompt was actually supposed to be river, book, salt and the theme Smut! I mixed it up in my post – so if you fancy another prompt 😉
Panda,
Oh well .. don’t think this qualifies.. and ok, may have to take another pass with Smut added to the mix.
Let the esoteric debates on the REAL prompts begin!
I lost track some time around mid-afternoon….
Love where you took this Stephen–so many layers of possible meaning…
Better than all that awful smut….;-0
Smut is never awful…just sometimes misplaced. 🙂
Well smut has it’s place.. though I missed that as part of the prompt. May take another go at it later tonight though 😀
Johnny,
Thanks! I enjoyed writing this one and glad the layers came through.
This was really lovely. You went places the rest of us didn’t with the prompt. I’m so glad you played.
Mimsy,
I think I went other places as I didn’t realize the smut part of the challenge.. maybe I can rise to the occasion later tonight!
🙂 well I’m sure your special someone would appreciate that. 🙂 IT WASN”T smut – that’s Panda’s interpretation of “romance or sensual”, so yours fits fine. He just wants the gutter…
Yeah…I think the prompt/challenge game had a bit of the “telephone game” in it as well…all the more fun!
Mimsy,
well….. That’s a lovely thought thought no special someone at this point in my life 😀
one day.. until then maybe others can enjoy it…
OK, my new poem is up trying to stick to the original intent of the prompt 😀

Enjoy
Stephen it was beautiful, smut or no, I followed your journey across the river with your words.
A reminder to self that this is but
One chapter in my book of life
The rest, yet written
Jen,
Thanks so glad you liked it. There is much yet to be written in each of our books of life!
Peace and happy new year!
Stephen
