Visitor in the night – Poem – NaPoWriMo2013

Had a dream last week… Miss you pops!

Visitor in the night

It’s a strange kind of thing
When you wake from a dream
With a tear in your eye
Over what you’ve just seen

Loved one alive
Though your brain told you no
You laid him to rest

You wanted it to be
He greeted you just so
Your heart said yes
Your brain screamed no

It was sweet and simple
He passed in the hall
Gave me a greeting
He hadn’t changed at all

It was dad, I was sure
But knew it couldn’t be
My brain fought and struggled
Between want and reality

I woke from the dream
Wiped the tear from my eye
Emotions in turmoil
Long lonesome sigh

  1. Alice Keys says:

When I’ve been blessed with these visitations, I always feel I’ve been given a gift. It’s a glimpse into the truth that we are not so far away from them as we feel. Much love.

  2. …tick…love this…tick…lost my dad not so long ago…tick…afraid I don’t remember too many of my dreams though…tick…
